Certification Renewal Process
In order to maintain employment with Atlanta Public Schools, it is your responsibility to secure and maintain a valid certificate. The Human Resources Department will be assisting with the renewal to ensure that all requirements are met and that all required documents are submitted to the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. It is important to complete the renewal process by the end of March. Failure to do so could result in the delay of issuance or the loss of your contract with the Atlanta Public Schools.
Please note:
Renewals should be completed by March 30th of the certificate expiration year.
Procedures
Create or update your GaPSC Account
Visit the GaPSC’s MyPSC website to create or update your account.
This will allow you to access your certificate and track the renewal process.
Complete Renewal and VLP Forms
Complete the Certification Update Application and the Verification of Lawful Presence (VLP) Form.
Background Check and Fingerprinting Session
Walk-in appointments for Fingerprinting/Background are available Monday – Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Bring a valid unexpired form of identification (see VLP for acceptable form of I.D.) and a money order or cashier’s check made out to the Atlanta Public Schools for $45.00.
Bring the completed application and VLP to the fingerprinting/background session.
If you have completed a fingerprinting/background session with the Atlanta Public Schools within the school calendar year (July 1 – June 30) of the certificate expiration date, you are finished with the renewal process and do not need to complete this step.
Express Renewal Sessions – Safety and Security
Express Renewal Sessions will also be available to employees on Tuesdays and Thursday between the hours of 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. in order to complete the certification renewal process (submit completed documents and complete the fingerprinting/background requirement).
